The Embassy of Canada in China and the China Representative Office of the Canadian Forestry Innovation Investment Agency visited the Chinese Academy of Forestry

The two parties will promote cooperation through the establishment of exchange mechanisms, personnel exchanges, joint conferences, joint research demonstration projects and other forms and activities to jointly respond to global climate change and contribute to the sustainable development of society.


On 18 December, 2023, Mr. Trevor YU, Agricultural Counselor of the Canadian Embassy in China, and Mr. Liu Guoli, head of the China Representative Office of the Canadian Forestry Innovation Investment Agency, visited the Chinese Academy of Forestry (CAF).


At the meeting, the two parties briefly introduced the basic situation of the two institutions, reviewed the cooperation history between CAF and the Canadian Forestry Innovation Investment Agency since the signing the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in 2003. Both sides fully affirmed the achievements of the first two phases of the implementation of the MoU, as well as the scientific research results achieved in the field of wooden building materials, major contributions to the development of China’s wood structure technology and industry. At the same time, the two parties discussed the progress and cooperation prospects in the fields of biological control mechanisms of pine wood nematode, promotion and use of wooden building materials and wooden structures in China, forest product investment and trade, and sustainable forest management. It is suggested, for the next step of cooperation, to establish a stable information exchange mechanism, conduct mutual visits of researchers, jointly organize meetings, and implement demonstration projects, to deepen cooperation, jointly address climate change, and contribute to the sustainable development.


The Canadian Forestry Innovation Investment Agency is an agency directly under the provincial government of British Columbia, Canada. It is committed to the diversified market development of forest products and sustaining the leading role the forest industry in the economic structure of the province. In 2003, the Canadian Forestry Innovation Investment Agency established its first overseas branch in China: Forest Innovation Investment, with offices in Beijing and Shanghai. With the mission of promoting low-carbon construction technologies to combat climate change, Forest Innovation Investment China Office has carried out a series of fruitful cooperation with Chinese governmental departments, institutions and industry associations at all levels through official exchanges, standards support, demonstration projects, market promotion, etc. . CAF and Forest Innovation Investment China Office paved good foundation for cooperation. In November 2003, Researcher Zhang Shougong, then Executive Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Forestry, and Ms. Kennedy, President of the Forestry Innovation Investment, signed the MoU between CAF and the Provincial Government of British Columbia of Canada, in the presence of Prof. Jiang Zehui, President of the Chinese Academy of Forestry and Mr. Campbell, the Premier of British Columbia, Canada.


In 2008, on the occasion of the 50thanniversary of CAF, a MoU was signed between CAF and Forest Innovation Investment China Office. In the agreed areas of cooperation, the Research Institute of Wood Industry of CAF and Forest Innovation Investment China Office have carried out a number of international cooperation projects in the field of wood engineering technology, with remarkable achievements.
