Chinese Academy of Forestry participated in the 62nd Executive Committee Meeting of International Union of Forest Research Organizations and the International Symposium on Intersectoral Cooperation for Resilient Landscapes

From 24 March to 1 April 1 2023, Prof. Liu Shirong, Vice Chairman of the International Union of Forest Research Organizations (IUFRO) and former President of Chinese Academy of Forestry (CAF), and Prof. Xiao Wenfa, Member of the Executive Committee and Vice President of the International Federation of Forests, attended the 62ndExecutive Committee Meeting of the IUFRO held in India, and participated in the International Symposium on “Intersectoral Cooperation for Resilient Landscapes” jointly organized by IUFRO and Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education (ICFRE).


Prof. Liu Shirong and Prof. Xiao Wenfa reported on the progress of their duties in the past year at this Executive Committee meeting, and participated in discussions on the new executive committee members of IUFRO from 2024 to 2029, the host country application for the 27thWorld Congress of IUFRO, and other major matters.


During the International Symposium on Intersectoral Cooperation for Resilient Landscapes, experts from CAF participated in discussions on the following issues: governance issues and stakeholder engagement in forest landscape restoration; water resources, soil conservation and mineland restoration; building resilience to climate change and its impacts in forest landscape restoration, experiences/case studies of sectoral integration for building resilient landscape. Prof. Liu Shirong delivered a report on the interactive impact of forests and water.


At the 25thWorld Congress of the IUFRO in 2019, Prof. Liu Shirong and Prof. Xiao Wenfa were elected as members of the Executive Committee of the IUFRO for the term of 2019-2024, serving as vice president and executive committee member respectively.
