Forestry Delegation from El Salvador Visited Bamboo Research and Development Center

On 17 December, 2023, Ms. Patricia Alexandra Quintana De Fuentes, official from the Ministry of Homeland Development of El Salvador, and Mr. Jose Humberto Hernandez Sanchez, official from the Forestry Bureau, visited the Bamboo Research and Development Center to discuss potential cooperation.


The director of the Bamboo Research and Development Center pointed out during the meeting that El Salvador has rich bamboo resources and the bamboo industry has great potential. The development of bamboo industry must be market oriented. While introducing Chinese technology and equipment, it is essential to promote Chinese culture to influence local people's living habits of using bamboo and eating bamboo shoots. The Bamboo Research and Development Center showcases the latest research and development of bamboo tableware and household items made using bamboo fiber using physical separation technology.


Officials from El Salvador pointed out that, since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and El Salvador in 2018, the El Salvador government has been very interested in developing the bamboo industry and China’s “Replacing Plastics with Bamboo” initiative. The delegation is deeply impressed by the bamboo-producing areas in Zhejiang province. The delegates emphasize the urgency of introducing advanced Chinese technology, expanding bamboo planting areas, increasing production, and promoting the development of bamboo products, such as bamboo shoots, bamboo tableware and etc. They conveyed their intention to assess priority areas for bamboo industry development upon their return to their country. Additionally, they expressed their commitment to liaise with the Chinese Embassy in Samoa to pursue further cooperation matters.


The delegation also visited the Bamboo Home Engineering Research Center Exhibition Hall and the Laboratory of the Bamboo Research and Development Center.
