

Both sides agreed on promoting scientific research cooperation in the fields of wood science, forest genetic breeding and forestry remote sensing technology, etc.
On 4 July 2024, a delegation of three people, led by Mr. Michael Zea, Undersecretary of the Agriculture Production of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock of Ecuador, visited the Chinese Academy of Forestry (CAF). Mr. Chen Shaozhi, Vice President of CAF, hosted the meeting.
At the meeting, Mr. Chen Shaozhi first welcomed Ms. Carla Cárdenas, Second Secretary of the Embassy of Republic of Ecuador in China, and Mr. Lu Wenming, Deputy Director General of the International Bamboo and Rattan Organization, who were accompanying the delegation. He then provided a basic introduction of CAF, briefly reviewed the history of forestry cooperation between CAF and Latin American countries, and expressed the hope that the two sides will further deepen the cooperation and promote collaboration achievements.
Mr. Michael Zea pointed out that, situated in the tropical area, Ecuador is rich in forestry resources and has a great potential for wood processing and utilization, but lack of in-depth research. He expressed hope of further cooperation and exchanges in the fields of forest genetic breeding and forestry remote sensing technology, and his friendly willingness to promote scientific research cooperation between Ecuadorian forestry research and education institutions and CAF.
Mr. Rao Guodong, researcher from the Research Institute of Forestry, and Mr. Chen Erxue, researcher from the Research Institute of Forest Resource Information Techniques shared their academic reports on forest genetic breeding and forestry remote sensing research respectively.
After the meeting, the Ecuadorian delegation visited the State Key Laboratory of Tree Genetics and Breeding and the Forest and Grass Virtual Reality and Visualization Simulation Laboratory.
Chinese representatives attending the meeting included directors and experts from the Institute of Forestry, Research Institute of Forest Resource Information Techniques, and International Cooperation Division of the Chinese Academy of Forestry.
