

A MOU signed between the Bamboo Center of Chinese Academy of Forestry and the National Association of Bamboo Farmers, Processors and Distributors of Nigeria and the two sides will deepen cooperation in human resources development and basic research related to bamboo resources to jointly promote the development of bamboo industry in both countries.
On 1 July 2024, the closing ceremony of the Seminar on High Value-added Bamboo Application for ITTO Member Countries took place in Hangzhou. The two-week seminar was hosted by the Ministry of Commerce of China and organized by China National Bamboo Research Center of the National Forestry and Grassland Administration (hereinafter referred to as the "Bamboo Center”). A total of 24 government officials and forestry researchers from Cameroon, Panama and other ITTO member countries participated in the seminar. The ceremony was hosted by Mr. Wu Tonggui, deputy director of the Bamboo Center; Mr. Xu Qiangxing, deputy director of the International Cooperation Department of the National Forestry and Grassland Administration, attended the closing ceremony and delivered a speech.
Mr. Xu Qiangxing gave full recognition to the seminar, and shared important measures and achievements of the Chinese government in ecological civilization construction and ecological protection of forest and grassland. He also expressed his hope to strengthen friendship and exchange with ITTO member countries through the seminar.
Mr. Wu Tonggui placed high hopes on all participants for future communication, exchange and cooperation. He hoped to strengthen collaboration through training and promote the sustainable development of bamboo and forestry. On behalf of all participants, Ms. Carolina Concepcion from the University of Panama sincerely thanked the Chinese government for the opportunity and highly praised the warm reception of the organizer and the wonderful training lecturers. She especially emphasized that she benefited a lot from recognizing the role of bamboo in addressing climate change.
At the closing ceremony, the Bamboo Center signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation with the National Association of Bamboo Farmers, Processors and Distributors of Nigeria. This is an important deliverable of this seminar, and the first time for the Bamboo Center to sign a formal cooperation agreement with a foreign party through the bridge built by foreign aid training. The two sides will deepen cooperation in human resources development and basic research related to bamboo resources to jointly promote the development of bamboo industry in both countries.
