CAF delegation actively participated various events of the World Congress, over 100 meetings in the fields of forests and water conservation, forest management, forests and climate change, forest genetic resource protection, forest ecosystem services, and forestry finance.

The 26th World Congress of the International Union of Forest Research Organizations (IUFRO) took place at the Stockholm International Exhibition Center in Sweden from June 23 to 29, 2024. A total of 4,271 forestry researchers from 102 countries attended the Congress. Led by Academician Liu Shirong, together with Vice Presidents Mr. Xiao Wenfa and Mrs. Cui Lijuan, a delegation of 20 researchers from the Chinese Academy of Forestry (CAF) attended the World Congress.

The Congress is themed as "Forests and Society Towards 2050". Participants discussed five key themes: strengthening forest resilience and adaption to stress, towards a responsible forest bioeconomy, forest biodiversity and its ecosystem services, forests for sustainable societies and forests for the future. The conference has 5 plenary sessions, 17 sub-plenary sessions and nearly 200 technical sessions, and a total of 3,500 reports were shared.

Extensive exchanges with international peers have been conducted, achieving remarkable results. Among them, 12 plenary sessions, sub-plenary sessions, technical sessions and poster sessions have been facilitated by 7 experts. A total of 16 experts shared 25 reports, 6 experts attended the expanded meeting of the Executive Committee, 2 experts participated the International Council meeting, and 2 experts attended meetings of academic divisions. In addition, CAF also fully demonstrated its research fields and major scientific and technological achievements through the exhibition.
Experts from CAF fully demonstrated its capabilities of international cooperation. Academician Liu Shirong, Vice President of IUFRO, focused on forest and water-related ecosystem services, and hosted the fourth plenary session, award ceremony, Asian plenary session and the technical session. Researcher Wu Shuirong from the Research Institute of Forestry Policy and Information, together with his fellow from Australia co-hosted the technical session and the poster session on multi-objective forest management. Researcher Wang Hui from the Ecology and Nature Conservation Institute and experts from Austria, Switzerland and Germany jointly facilitated the poster and technical session on the response of forest ecosystems to global change. Researcher Lei Xiangdong from the Research Institute of Forest Resource Information Techniques and scholars from Copenhagen, Denmark co-hosted the technical session on forest management for climate change adaptation and mitigation. Researcher Yin Yafang from the Research Institute of Wood Industry and his fellow from Brazil jointly facilitated a session on advancing methods and applications of wood identification. Researcher Zheng Yongqi from the Research Institute of Forestry, together with Korean scholars, organized a session on managing forest genetic resources for multi-purposes for forest products, ecosystem services and response to climate change. Associate Researcher Liu Jun from the Research Institute of Subtropical Forestry facilitated a session on sustainable management of the Meliaceae. Experts shared the latest research results in related fields with more than 70 experts and scholars from more than 50 countries, attracting more than 600 participants.

In the closing ceremony of the Congress on 29 June, new IUFRO President and Executive Committee member list were announced. Ms. Cui Lijuan was elected as the IUFRO Executive Committee member for the term of 2024-2029. She will participate in important decision-making affairs of the IUFRO and continue to promote cooperation between the IUFRO and China.
