3 senior delegates from the Chinese Academy of Forestry reported to the meeting.

The 26th World Congress of the International Union of Forest Research Organizations (IUFRO) took place in Stockholm, Sweden from June 23-29. The Chinese Academy of Forestry delegation with 20 members attended the Congress in Sweden. Before the World Congress, IUFRO held an expanded meeting of the Executive Committee at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) from June 19-20 2024. Mr. Liu Shirong, Vice President of IUFRO and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Mr. Xiao Wenfa, Executive Committee Member of IUFRO (2019 to 2024) and Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Forestry, Ms. Cui Lijuan, Executive Committee Member of IUFRO (2024 to 2029) and Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Forestry, Mr. Xu Bin, China Representative of the International Council of IUFRO and Director of the Division of International Cooperation of Chinese Academy of Forestry, and Mr. Yin Yafang, Deputy Coordinator of the Fifth Academic Division of IUFRO (2024 to 2029), attended the meeting.
The expanded meeting of the IUFRO Executive Committee reviewed the progress reports of the IUFRO divisions, special working groups and special support projects during the term of 2019-2024. During the meeting, IUFRO development direction for the new term (2024-2029), work arrangement, mechanism setting and matters of the next IUFRO World Congress have been discussed and approved. The new IUFRO President, Executive Committee members and division coordinators are invited to report on future work plan.
In charge of the Task Forces during his term, Mr. Liu Shirong first summarized the impressive achievements made in the past five years on behalf of all the task forces and hosted the report session of the task forces.
As an executive member of IUFRO, Mr. Xiao Wenfa reported on the overall situation of promoting IUFRO work and international scientific research cooperation and exchanges in China, among which the exchange of young scientists was highly appreciated by the Executive Committee.
The President of IUFRO announced the elected members of the new IUFRO Executive Committee at the meeting on the 20th. Ms. Cui Lijuan was successfully elected as an executive member of IUFRO for a term of 2024-2029. According to the arrangement of the President of IUFRO, Ms. Cui Lijuan will be mainly responsible for fundraising and policy publications. She expressed that she will strive to promote international cooperation and exchanges in forestry scientific research under the framework of IUFRO and support forestry policy formulation from the perspective of scientific research.
The IUFRO World Congress is one of the world's largest forestry academic events, held every 4-5 years since 1893. The Congress brings together leading scientists and stakeholders from around the world to discuss scientific and technical issues related to forestry research, policy and management, and contribute to sustainable development. The theme of this World Congress is "Forests and Society towards 2050", and over 4,000 delegates from all over the world attended the Congress.
