Seminar on Wetland Conservation and Management for RAMSAR Member Countries Organized

Participants agreed that China's valuable experience in wetland protection, ecological restoration and rational use is worth learning.




After 14 days of intense and fulfilling training, the Seminar on Wetland Conservation and Management for RAMSAR Member Countries was successfully completed at the Bamboo Center on 6 June 2024. Mr. Wang Jinhua, official from the Overseas Investment and Economic Cooperation Department of Zhejiang Provincial Department of Commerce, and Mr. Wu Tonggui, deputy director of the Bamboo Center, attended the graduation ceremony and delivered speeches. With the participation of 33 participants and related staff, the graduation ceremony was hosted by Ms. Zheng Youmiao, head of the International Cooperation and Achievement Transformation Department of the Bamboo Center.


Mr. Wang Jinhua said in his speech that, Zhejiang is the pioneer in China's reform and opening up and the birthplace of the private entrepreneurship, within the top-ranking list in terms of economic and social development in China. At the same time, Zhejiang is the cradle of China's "Two Mountains" theory and a pioneer in building a modern society where humanity and nature can coexist in harmony. The case of Zhejiang shows that economic development and ecological protection are not contradictory, and the two promote each other and improve together. He hopes that the participants will practice what they have learned and apply the "Chinese wisdom" of ecological civilization construction to the practice of natural resource protection and management in their own country.


On behalf of the organizer, Mr. Wu Tonggui congratulated all participants on their successful completion and expressed his appreciation for their spirit of seeking truth and hardworking. He said that the Bamboo Center is willing to become a platform and bridge for participants from different countries to connect with each other, and facilitate further communication, strengthen exchanges and deepen cooperation. The Bamboo Center will continue to collect= opinions and suggestions on the training workshop, continuously summarize the experience and improve the quality, to create high-quality training program.


Participants from Fiji, Nigeria, Zambia expressed gratitude to the Chinese government for its efficient organization and thoughtful arrangements. They said that they have been learning new knowledge every day during the workshop. They agreed that China's valuable experience in wetland protection, ecological restoration and rational use is worth learning from other countries; and its advanced awareness and measures in wetland legislation, management of important wetland, wetland park construction, international wetland city creation, and natural heritage site declaration have also inspired international peers. The trainees also presented a framed photo themed as "Global Wetland Family" it to the organizer as a gift.


This year, the Bamboo Center is committed to creating a foreign aid training brand of "telling good stories about China's forestry and grassland technology and promoting President Xi Jinping's thought on ecological civilization ". The training workshop on wetland protection and management is the first foreign aid training course in the wetland field after China successfully held the Conference of the Contracting Parties (COP14) to the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands in 2022. It will play a positive role in promoting the implementation of relevant COP14 resolutions, cooperating with China's diplomatic strategies such as the establishment of the International Mangrove Center, and enhancing China's international leadership and leverage in the field of ecological protection.
