Ph.D. supervisor, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, expert in sivilculture and forest management, Deputy Chairperson of the Environment Protection and Resources Conservation Committee of the 13th National People's Congress, Director of the Forest Cultivation Branch as well as the Forest Culture and Natural Heritage Branch of the Chinese Society of Forestry.
Prof. Zhang Shougong was the former president of the Chinese Academy of Forestry.
As one of the main leading scientists in the field of integrated and intensive research of plantation cultivation and sustainable forest management in China, Prof. Zhang Shougong is committed to basic research on larch quality improvement, propagation engineering, forest stand management technology and application. For the first time, the forest stand growth model system and product prediction model reconstruction were implemented in the forest management model. He has promoted the development of China’s sustainable forest management theory, indicator system and technical system. He initiated and promoted the establishment of China's forestry biotechnology research team.
Prof. Zhang Shougong has won the Second Prizes (three times) of National Award for Progress in Science and Technology Awards and several awards on science and technology at provincial and ministerial levels. He obtained one international invention patent and 13 national invention patents and published over 250 academic papers, including 45 SCI papers, and published seven monographs. He has won many honors, including the National Award for Advanced Individuals in Scientific and Technological Research, the Outstanding Contribution Award of National Natural Fund Management, and the China Youth Science and Technology Award.
In 2017, Prof. Zhang Shougong was elected as an Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.
