Ph.D.supervisor, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, forest scientist, ecologist, Honorary Director of the Institute of Forestry Ecological Environment and Protection, Chinese Academy of Forestry.
Prof. Jiang Youxu has been engaged in research on forest geography, forest community, forest ecosystem structure and function, biodiversity, and sustainable forest management. He took a leadingrole in research on ecological positioning the sub-alpine forests in western Sichuan, tropical forests in Jianfeng Mountain, mid-subtropical fir plantations and moso bamboo forests in Hainan province, large-scale agricultural inspection in Hainan, three-dimensional forestry management research on natural forest areas in the Northeast China, and research on warm temperate and tropical biodiversity. Prof. Jiang Youxu used a binary method that combines subgroup layer and ecological species group, to establish a unified forest classification system for China’s complex natural geographical conditions. The concept of "cycle" has been developed in the temperate zone and sub-alpine zone to demonstrate the relationship between community evolution and development among different biomes. He established and directed the long-term positioning research network of China's forest ecosystem and jointly developed the international temperate and boreal forest sustainable management indicator system. He took a leading role in research on sustainable forest management at the national and regional levels in China.
Prof. Jiang Youxu has obtained many awards on scientific and technological at national and ministerial levels. He has published nearly 180 academic papers and monographs, and translated five books. He has mentored nearly 20 master’s, doctoral students, and postdoctoral fellows.
In 1999, Prof. Jinag Youxu was elected as an Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
