
Ph.D. supervisor. He is currently the Vice President of the International Union of Forest Research Organizations, Vice Chairman of the Chinese Society of Forestry, Vice Chairman of the Chinese Committee of the International Science Council of the China Association for Science and Technology, member of the National Expert Committee on Climate Change. He is also the Chief editor of the Journal of Terrestrial Ecosystems and Conservation, and Wetland Science and Management; Deputy chief editor of Acta Ecologica Sinica, Journal of Resources and Ecology, Journal of Beijing Forestry University, Journal of Forestry Research, Forest Ecosystems; and the Member of editorial board of Ecohydrology, Journal of Plant Ecology and etc.
Prof. Liu Shirong has been engaged in research in the field of forest ecology, including structure and function of forest ecosystem, ecological restoration of degraded natural forests, soil fertility decline and long-term productivity maintenance mechanism and multi-objective management of forest plantations, forest ecohydrology, response and adaptation of forest to climate change adaptation and etc. He took a leading role in multiple national key science and technology projects. Currently, he is leading the project “Forest Carbon Sink Formation and Management Response Mechanism in the context of Carbon Neutrality”. As the Chief editor, Prof. Liu Shirong has published 11 academic monographs, and 234 papers as the first or corresponding author in authoritative journals such as Nature Communications, Global Change Biology, and Acta Ecologica Sinica. He has been awarded with the Second Prizes( four times) of National Science and Technology Progress Award and a number of awards at provincial and ministerial levels. Relevant research achievements have made significant contributions to the construction of national ecological civilization.
In 2023, Prof. Liu Shirong was elected as an Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.
