Prof. Li Fangdong is the head of the Wood Grain Variety Creation and Cultivating Innovation Team under the Chinese Academy of Forestry, with more than 20 members. His research fields mainly include basic research and applied technology research in economic forest tree species such as hybrid apricots, plums and persimmons. His research directions are genetic improvement of major economic forest tree species, cultivation of new varieties, and efficient and precise cultivation technology and forest products deep processing technology, etc.

Prof. Li Fangdong has presided over and completed more than 20 scientific research projects, including National Science and Technology Support Project, National Key R&D Project and UNDP project. He is currently hosting a National Key Research and Development Plan Project: Creation of new high-quality and high-yield economic forest varieties and precision cultivation technology.

Prof. Li Fangdong cultivated and certified over 22 improved economic forest varieties of hybrid Prunus armeniaca,Prunus domestica,Diospyros,Eucommia ulmoides and kernel stone fruits (including 10 national improved varieties), obtained 15 national invention patents, published more than 100 academic papers and three books, and formulated two industry standards, won multiple awards on science and technology at various levels.
