Established by the Institute of Chemical Industry of Forest Product of Chinese Academy of Forestry (CAF), the Demonstration Base of Clean Production Technology of Wood Pulp and High-Concentration Wastewater Treatment was approved by the Ministry of Science and Technology in 2018 as a state demonstration base for foreign intellectual resources introduction. The Base was named by the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs as State Demonstration and Promotion Base for Foreign Intellectual Achievements Introduction of Clean Pulp Production Technology and High-Concentration Wastewater Treatment in 2011.
Through a number of foreign intellectual resources introduction projects as well as national key research and development projects, the Base, in view of common issues of China's pulp and paper industry, made breakthroughs in key industrial technologies such as pressure swing impregnation and softening, energy-saving pulp grinding, and cleaning and bleaching, by applying mechanisms and basic theories of wood chip liquid penetration and homogeneous softening, low-temperature directional dissociation of fibers, and efficient bleaching. It has developed key production technologies such as pressure swing impregnation, high-energy-efficiency pulp grinding, softening and bleaching, efficient wastewater treatment, and industrial applications.
The Base has innovatively developed a grinding system that can fully squeeze and homogeneously impregnate wood raw materials with different properties, achieving a significant reduction in power and chemical consumption for grinding. Through the application of new technologies such as pressure-swing impregnation and homogeneous softening, low-temperature directional dissociation of fiber and energy-saving grinding, the quality of paper pulp has been improved, the proportion of high-end household paper products has been increased, and the appliable scope of high-yield pulp has been expanded.The proportion of high-yield pulp in household paper has been increased from 10%-15% to 20%-30%. Breaking through key technical difficulties of agricultural straw based clean pulping and waste utilization, the resource utilization rate of waste fiber reached 98%, and the reduction rate of solid waste in the production process reached over 90%. It innovatively developed a number of new products, such as nutritional bowl made of agricultural straw fiber, mulch films, etc. New progress has been made in component separation and purification technology, achieving high value-added utilization of separated lignin and hemicellulose. The innovatively developed high-efficiency treatment technology and equipment for pulping wastewater has increased the COD removal efficiency by more than 30% and improved the quality of reclaimed water. The reclaimed water reuse rate has increased from 40% to 65%, and the comprehensive treatment cost of per cubic meter of wastewater has been reduced accordingly.
Through the implementation of intellectual resources introduction projects and industry-university-research cooperation, 10 clean pulping production lines using domestic equipment have been built, and one high-yield pulp production line has been exported to Malaysia. Relevant technological achievements have been promoted and applied in more than 30 imported production lines in a few paper industry enterprises, with a total applied production capacity of more than 4.8 million t/a.
The new high-yield clean pulping production technology is characterized as high resource utilization (nearly doubled), low project investment and low pollutant generation. The application and demonstration of technological achievements introduced by foreign intelligence will be conducive to promote the healthy development of wood-based pulp and paper industry, with significant economic, environmental and social benefits.
