Brief Introduction:

Vanuatu is one of the Least Developed Countries (LDCs), and is facing such wide challenges as food security, unsustainable management of nature resource, degradation of ecosystems, increasing frequency and intensity of extreme weather events. Forest is one of fundamental pillars to guarantee meet people's livelihood and ecological security. Bamboo is rich in resources, but little in utilization. It is to enhance rural development and environmental protection through bamboo industry development by transfer of the Chinese advanced and practical bamboo technologies.


Project has completed field survey of bamboo resources, market and policy, formulated strategic planning of national bamboo industry development, imported machinery/equipment for the manufacture of bamboo furniture and curtain, dispatched some experts from China to Vanuatu for conducting machinery installation, commission, and technical training, established a valuable bamboo furniture exhibition platform, The bamboo furniture has successfully been recognized in some international expo.


In 2020, Project is screened as one of Good Practices in South-South and Triangular Cooperation for Sustainable Development by United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation by the name of "Value-added bamboo processing development in Vanuatu-creating a value-added bamboo agro-industry for improving rural livelihoods".
