Prof. Zeng Jie is the head of Silviculture Research Center, and PI of Forest Management Team, Research Institute of Tropical Forestry. He works on collection, conservation, evaluation and utilization of germplasm resources, and forest management for tropical tree species, especially for valuable broad-leaved timber species such as Betula alnoides, Erythrophleum fordii, Peterocarpus santalinus and Vatica mangachapoi, etc. mainly under financial supports from the Ministry of Science and Technology, National Natural Science Foundation, and National Forestry and Grassland Administration of China.
Prof. Zeng Jie is specialized in large-sized knot-free timber production through site selection, fertilization, mixture, thinning and pruning, under-story vegetation management, and crop tree release. Make good progress in breeding improved variety, controlling trade-off between branch development and tree growth through planting density and mixture for Betula alnoides, facilitating heartwood formation for Erythrophleum fordii, and controlling shoot borer through forest management for both species. He established "Zeng Jie Expert Workstation" in Dehong Prefecture, Yunnan Province which serves for local industrial development of valuable timber species. He gained Liang Xi Forestry Science and Technology Award (2nd grade) and was Selected as "Key Talent Project" candidates of National Forestry and Grassland Administration in 2017.
