A germplasm resource bank of eucommia and cork oak was established, preserving 324 eucommia germplasm resources and 318 cork oak germplasm resources. Prof. Zhu Jingle's team screened out 53 pieces of Eucommia germplasm with specific traits such as leaf color, leaf shape, and high active ingredients. Taking 'red leaf' Eucommia as the research object, they figured out its coloring law, identified the coloring substances, and determined that EuMYB5 is the key gene for the formation of 'red leaf' trait. They screened 42 pieces of cork oak germplasm with good dry shape, fast-growing and excellent cork quality, revealed the accumulation law of cork oak cork formation, and unearthed 13 genes related to cork synthesis. In addition, they optimized the technology system of cork oak somatic embryo regeneration, and initially explored the genetic transformation system with cork oak somatic embryo as the receptor, which laid the foundation for the further establishment of an efficient and stable genetic transformation system.
