Main work

Established a seedling seed orchard for Pinus caribaea var. caribaea and P. caribaea var. bahamensis respectively in Jiangmen of Guangdong Province and Hepu of Guangxi Province, combining provenance and family trials, they are now treated as the filed gene banks of the two varieties of caribbean pine, with the widest collections of provenances and families. Superior individuals have been selected for cutting propagation. Hybrids between Slash pine and Caribbean pine have been obtained with significant hybrid superiority.

Created the first national platform for conservation and utilization of forest genetic resources (FGR) through standardization and documentation of FGR and construction of big data on FGR, integrating all FGR data from the nation wide FGR inventory, field FGR gene banks. This has laid a solid foundation for scientific studies, development of seed industries and key national ecological programs based on the information and FGR provided by the platform.

Carried our first ever nation wide inventory on FGR by preparation of the overall implementation plan, conducting technical training and overseeing field inventory activities. Developed a mobile APP with use of AI technologies, bringing a breakthrough to the traditional methodology based on manual recording on paper and making the efficiency of field inventory a sharp increase.

Constructed a national laboratory for molecular identification of plant varieties, providing a powerful tool for protection of the plant breeders' rights and for infringement cases to obtain evidences for the court with sufficient accuracy and short period.

Developed a internet based system using blockchain technologies for tracking the supply chain of tree seedlings of protected plant varieties. Plant breeders can use the system to trade their protected plant varieties with out worrying about illegal reproduction of the protected varieties. The system reflects a significant innovation in the traditional system for seed quality control and tracking of origin.
