Main work

Prof. Sun Yongyu has been conducting long-term research on degraded vegetation restoration, forest plant cultivation, and physiological ecology in the southwestern region of China, especially in dry-hot valleys.

Analyzed the water dissipation characteristics and mechanisms of the main afforestation tree species in the dry-hot valleys: The TDP thermal diffusion method was applied to explore the precise calculation of tree water consumption in the dry-hot valleys, providing scientific and theoretical support for regional afforestation density, water transport rhythm, and management.

Assessment and prediction of ecological security in dry-hot valleys: Revealing the main obstacles and mechanisms of regional ecological security, predicting the development trend from regional and historical scales, providing important theoretical basis and data support for ecological risk prevention and protection in the dry-hot valley regions.

Integration of vegetation restoration technologies in dry-hot valleys: The technology system for afforestation and low-efficiency forest transformation in dry-hot valleys were studied from multiple perspectives of natural renewal and afforestation management, providing necessary technologies for sustainable forestry and resource utilization in the region.

Research on the breeding of forest plant resources in Southwest China: the cultivation and breeding techniques, physiological and ecological characteristics of medicinal Dendrobium and Paris polyphylla var. Yunnanensis were studied, integrated the cultivation and processing system, and provided an applied basis for the research and   development of forest resources in Southwest China.
