Prof. Wang Baoping has been engaged in the research of Paulownia breeding, cultivation and agroforestry management for more than 30 years. He has undertaken national Paulownia research tasks for seven consecutive five-year plans and has presided over nearly 20 various scientific research projects. Under his organization, the scope of Paulownia research has been broadened greatly, and more than 500 paulownia germplasm resources have been collected and preserved, more than 800 new germplasm have been created, and more than 20 superior clones of Paulownia have been selected and bred. He has innovated the pruning promoting trunk-extension technique that notably increases Paulownia's straight height to over 9 meters. The accompanying technical system for site selection, strain selection, afforestation method selection, density/structure control, stem form control, and soil fertility maintenance can increase trunk volume and net income per unit area by more than 30% compared to conventional methods. He has also developed a spatial-temporal model for photosynthetically active radiation in the Paulownia forest network system, comprehensive evaluation techniques for compound ecosystems, and proposed suitable forest network structures, grid sizes, and pruning and nurturing measures for the Huang-Huai-Hai Plain. He has obtained 10 certificates for superior Paulownia varieties/new varieties, published more than 40 academic papers, received one provincial/ministerial second-class award and two third-class awards, and won the honored title as a "National Outstanding Forestry Science and Technology Worker".
