Prof. Wang Lu, Ph.D., master supervisor, chief expert of Eucommia research team, visiting scholar of Umeå Plant Science Center, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, Executive director of Eucommia Branch of China Economic Forest Association, Deputy Secretary General of Eucommia Industrial National Innovation Alliance. Professor Wang has dedicated over 10 years to the breeding of Eucommia varieties, efficient cultivation and comprehensive utilization. She has presided 10 programs, including National Key R&D project of China, among others. She has participated in the formulation of 10 national and industry standards, obtained 5 invention patents, contributed to the compilation of 5 monographs, and published 29 papers.
Prof. Wang Lu has led the completion of the high-quality whole-genome sequencing and mapping of female Eucommia ulmoides plants, laying the foundation for molecular breeding. Using techniques such as resequencing, she has identified the genetic distance of core parents, selected the best hybrid combinations, constructed a high-density genetic map with SNP markers, identified 101 QTLs related to fatty acid synthesis, developed 7 pairs of molecular markers for accurately identifying high fatty acid content with an accuracy rate of over 90%. She has systematically analyzed the gene families related to fatty acid synthesis (EuFAD, EuFAB, EuPDAT, etc.) and conducted functional verification. Over expression of the EuFAD3-1 gene can increase the α-linolenic acid content in tobacco seeds from 1.0% to 5.3%, providing theoretical and technical support for creating breakthrough excellent new germplasm.
