Main work

Prof. Wang Yanhui graduated from Beijing Forestry University with a Bachelor in 1982 and Master in 1985 in soil and water conservation, and got his PhD in forest nutrition and soil science at the University of Goettingen of Germany in 1996. He has be working at the Chinese Academy of Forestry (CAF) since 1985, and now as a leading professor on forest ecohydrology.

Prof. Wang Yanhui has over 40 years of research and teaching experiences in soil erosion control, soil acidification and forest health, forest eco-hydrology, multifunctional forestry and forest management, in south, north and particularly the northwest dryland region of China. He has published 348 papers and 25 monographs until the end of 2023.

Prof. Wang Yanhui and his research group established a long term research station of forest ecohydrology in the loess Plateau of Northwest China, where they studied the interaction between water and forest/vegetation, and the practical approach for integrating the management of water and forest services into the traditional forest management, in multiple spatial scales, from stand, slope, small watershed, watershed to a region, with an objective of increasing the overall contribution of forestry to regional sustainable development.

Prof. Wang Yanhui's current researches mainly focus on the effects of site and stand conditions on forest growth and related hydrological and other ecosystem services, the forest-water coordinated and multifunctional management of forests, and the development of payment for multiple forest ecosystem services, with aims of improving forest management for balanced supply of multiple forest ecosystem service.

Prof. Wang Yanhui is the Coordinator of Division 8.01.04 "Water supply and quality" of IUFRO since 2015, the vice chairman of the Association of Forest Hydrology and Watershed Management of the Chinese Society of Forestry since 2012.
