Prof. Yin Yafang was assigned to the Editorial Board of The Research Institute of Wood Industry (IAWA) Journal (2010-2017) and the Chinese Wood science and technology, the International Editorial Board of Korean Wood Science and Technology Journal (since 2015) and Associate Editor of IAWA Journal (since 2019), and appointed as consultancies by the China CITES Management Authority and the China CITES Scientific Committee (since 2013) and the China National Association of Forest Products Industry (since 2014), Deputy of 5.00.00 and Coordinator of 5.16.00, Division 5 of International Union of Forest Reaearch Organizations (IUFRO), and Executive committee member of International Union of Biological Sciences.
The study on the anatomy of wood was extended to the macromolecular structure of cell wall, and the mechanism of influence of wood structure on its properties was revealed, which has important reference value for the functional improvement of low-quality wood. Prof. Yin Yafang carries out research on wood recognition methods based on DNA barcodes and computer vision. He broke through the technical bottlenecks of wood DNA enrichment extraction and visualization of wood structural features, achieved accurate extraction of wood cell DNA information and structural image features, and lay an important foundation for solving the scientific problems of wood "species" recognition.
