Main work

SSR and SNP molecular markers were developed to assess genetic structure of natural populations in endangered Acer griseum and found that the genetic diversity within populations was high, and the mating system dominated by outbreeding maintained its genetic diversity. It was found that the population number of large tree species decreased due to the fierce interspecific competition, poor natural regeneration and low seed setting rate of mature trees.

Germplasm resources of Sorbus pohuashanensis were collected and evaluated. 300 accessions of genetic resources of 13 provenances were collected from Hebei, Shandong, etc., and the provenances suitable for popularization in northern low mountain areas were initially screened. By combining morphological and molecular biological techniques, it was verified that the pink-fruited Sorbus individuals unrecorded in the Flora of China found in the north mountainous area were the offsprings of multiple natural hybridizations of Sorbus pohuashanensis and S. discolor. It laid the foundation for the cultivation of improved and new varieties of Sorbus L.

As the leading expert to develop UPOV DUS test guidelines for Lycium L. and domestic test guidelines for Bougainvillea. As the technical expert of the Office of New Varieties of Plants of the State Forestry and Grassland Administration, support was provided for improving the testing of new varieties of forest plants in China. As a member of the National Plant New variety Test technology Standardization Committee, letter review and joint review of more than 30 test guidelines for forest trees.

The invasion risk assessment of the main cultivated tree species such as Robinia pseoduacacia and Rhus typhina in China is to provide technical basis for the scientific management of the exotic tree species.

Chaired (including co-authored) 20 projects, published 3 monographs, translated 1 book, published 25 first author/independent corresponding author articles, and published 3 forestry industry standards.
