Prof. Zhang Jianfeng carried out a relatively systematic study on "human settlement ecology", and published the book of the same name by China Forestry Press in 2014. It systematically discusses the relationship between human settlement and environmental factors such as atmospheric environment, water environment, and soil environment, and establishes the theoretical framework and technical system of this new discipline. Initiated and led the establishment of the Zhejiang Society of Human Settlements and Ecology (the first one in China). The monograph "Study of Ecological Engineering of Human Settlements" was published by Springer Nature in 2020, which elaborates on the theory of human ecological engineering and technologies such as soil improvement and vegetation restoration in degraded land. Moreover have published 7 works and over 170 papers; Applied for 10 patents as the main undertaking person (currently authorized 4 patents); drafted one local technical standard issued by Zhejiang Province. The doctoral students under his guidance have received awards such as the Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation Award from the Chinese Academy of Forestry in 2021, the 11th Outstanding Student Award of Liangxi of the Chinese Forestry Society in 2022, and Outstanding Graduates of Beijing City and the Chinese Academy of Forestry. Participates in relevant activities organized by FAO, WWF, and other organizations; Invited to serve as Guest Editor of Frontiers in Plant Science (top journal) and Forests. Meanwhile as reviewers for domestic and foreign journals such as Agriculture, Ecosystems & Environment, Journal of Earth Science, Environmental Monitoring and Assessment, Environmental Science and Pollution Research, International Journal of Environmental Science and Technology, International Journal of Environmental Science and Technology, Forestry Science, and Chinese Soil and Water Conservation Science, etc.
