Main work

Prof. Liu Fang engaged in long-term scientific research and technical demonstration work on  desertification control, presides over and participated in more than 20 projects, published more than 50 academic papers, co-authored 2 monographs, and formulated 1 forestry industry standard.

Participated in the "Survey of Major plant communities in Chinese Deserts" of the "13th Five-Year Plan" scientific and technological basic resources survey, took charge of the survey of Ulan Buh desert and Otok desert grassland area, and participated in the completion of the survey database of major plant communities in Chinese deserts.

Carried out research on the technology of desert ecosystem positioning monitoring and oasis shelterbelt system construction.

  • Explained the mechanism of sand and dust reduction by shelterbelt system;

  • Promoted the construction technology of water-saving oasis protection system in arid areas;

  • Selected 10 varieties suitable for planting in Ulan Buh areas;

  • Participated in the compilation of the monograph "Research on the Process of Oasis Development and Shelterbelts in Ulan Buh Desert" and served as deputy editor; Participated in the compilation of the monograph "Desert Ecosystem Function Assessment and Service Value Research" and served as editorial board member.

Carried out research on Sea-buckthorn seed selection and breeding and construction of national germplasm resources bank: participated in the "Sea-buckthorn Whole Genome Sequencing Research" and other projects, and served as the project leader of the National Forest germplasm resources bank of Sea-buckthorn from 2016 to 2019, collecting and preserving more than 260 sea-buckthorn germplasm resources. The industry standard "Technical regulations on establishment of ex situ conservation bank of germplasm resources of Hippophae rhamnoides L" (LY/T 3074-2018) was officially promulgated and implemented.
