The Experimental Center of Desert Forestry of Chinese Academy of Forestry (CAF) is located in the northeast of Ulan Buh Desert, under the administrative division of Dengkou County, Bayannur City, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.

There are five scientific and technological condition platforms in the center: Sea-buckthorn National Forest Germplasm Resource Bank, Inner Mongolia Dengkou Desert Ecosystem National Observation Research Station, Combat Desertification Engineering Technology Research Center, Ulan Buh Desert Comprehensive Control National Permanent Scientific Research Bas, and Dengkou Station of New Plants Varieties Testing Center of National Forestry and Grassland Administration.

The main task is to study and solve key scientific and technological problems in forest and grass construction in arid and semi-arid areas, carry out collection, conservation and utilization of germplasm resources, long-term monitoring of desert ecosystems, application, promotion of windproof, sand-fixation afforestation technology, scientific management, protection mode exploration, provide scientific and technological support for the construction of the "Three North" shelterbelt system and the construction of ecological barrier in northern China.
