
Both parties will actively participate in Mongolia's Afforestation Campaign --“Billion Trees”, facilitate the capacity building of the Sino-Mongolia Cooperation Center for Combating Desertification, collaborate on research and dust monitoring, to jointly promote the construction of an ecological security barrier on the Mongolian plateau.
On 29 November 2023, Mr. Zhang Yibo, President of the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce of Mongolia and General Manager of Mongolia Zhengyuan Company, along with his delegation visited the Chinese Academy of Forestry (CAF) to exchange information on international cooperation in combating desertification between China and Mongolia. Prof. Cui Lijuan, Vice President of CAF, hosted the meeting.
At the meeting, Prof. Cui Lijuan fully affirmed the willingness of CAF to cooperate with the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce of Mongolia and Mongolia Zhengyuan Company. Mr. Zhang Yibo pointed out that Mongolian mining companies have a strong demand for technologies for combating desertification. He also proposed the following fields for Sino-Mongolia cooperation, such as desertification prevention and control, and sandstorm monitoring and early warning. Mr. Wu Bo, Director of the Institute of Desertification Studies and Vice President of the Research Academy on China's Three-North Shelterbelt Forest Program (TSFP), introduced main directions and work priorities of Sino-Mongolia cooperation on desertification combating.
During the meeting, both parties believed that there are broad prospects in Sino-Mongolia cooperation on desertification combating; and both sides should make full use of their respective platform advantages, actively participate in Mongolia’s Afforestation Campaign --“Billion Trees”, facilitate the capacity building of Sino-Mongolia Cooperation Center for Combating Desertification, collectively conduct research and sandstorm monitoring, to jointly promote the construction of an ecological security barrier on the Mongolian Plateau.
