Job vacancy in the International Network for Bamboo and Rattan (INBAR)

Director, Environmental Sustainability Programme

As Director of the Environmental Sustainability Programme (ESP) you will:

★ Contribute to the implementation of the INBAR Strategy by providing leadership to the ESP, specifically

• Preparing proposals for the work of the ESP and carrying out fundraising for the ESP in close collaboration with the other senior managers in the organization and the executive management team

• Being responsible for the financial and technical planning and implementation of the work of the ESP

• Monitoring the progress of the projects carried out by the ESP

• Reporting on the outputs of the ESP internally and through external reports, presentations and publications to funding agencies and the general public

★ Provide leadership to the ESP team and supervise the staff of the Programme

★ Foster collaboration and synergy with other Programmes/Units within the organization and partners outside INBAR

★ Provide specific expertise in the fields of sustainable forest management, biodiversity and ecosystem services to the organization and ensure that this expertise stays up to date

★ Carry out activities within INBAR projects as appropriate, both as project leader and project team member

★ Contribute to the strategic management of the organization, including membership development

★ Contribute to the public relations of the organization

Experience and qualifications

★ At least 5 years relevant international project or programme management experience at a senior level

★ Demonstrated record of accomplishments and intellectual leadership in sustainable forest management and ecology as it relates to ecosystem services, experience with bamboo and/or rattan will be an asset

★ Demonstrated ability to raise funds for research and/or development projects

★ Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and proven drafting ability, as well as working level knowledge of at least one of the other languages of INBAR (French, Spanish, Chinese)

★ Intercultural mentality and ability to work with/manage international teams

★ Strong interpersonal and networking skills

★ Ability and willingness to travel to developing countries, including rural areas

This position reports to the Deputy Director General, and is based in Beijing, China, and a competitive international salary and benefits package will be provided. The successful candidate will be appointed for an initial period of one year, renewable/extendable based on performance and availability of funds.
